Music is something that connects you to joyous feeling in some or the other way. Even if you are a 55 year old mossback and hate listening to our generation of music I’m sure even you must have danced at your wedding. Everyone enjoy’s music and most of the people just love it so much that their day remains incomplete without it, some even listen to it to think better. So why is it so tough to find people who are interested in a music startup? Why everybody chickens out or are afraid to take a plunge in this sector?
Since the day I started working on PLUGMYDJ i find typical problems which seems to have no solution sometimes but i know every startup face them and I’m no exception so i keep hanging on and keep trying. But wouldn’t it be frustrating if in the midst of all this your co-founder starts to make excuses; my parents are pressurizing for studies, my college professor gave me a new project; i can’t manage everything blah blah blah and finally quits. Yeah that’s what happened with me.
I’m a student as well though final semester is not that hectic and I’m able to manage everything on my own but how long can i do that, probably few months but ultimately you need a soul with whom you can share your responsibilities and not worry all the time about every small damn thing.
According to me trying to find a tech co-founder goes way beyond that person’s technical skills. For me Passion, Behavior and the frequency at which both people think are qualities which should be seen while finding a co-founder apart from technical skills. You might say that i want tech work done and the guy is doing that and rest i don’t give a damn how the person is. Eventually when you’ll start to grow up if both co-founders have different thinking (not in terms of running business) in real life values, clashes are bound to happen which will ultimately hamper your business.
If the technical guy is not passionate about what you are doing he won’t think much and won’t contribute the way he should as a co-founder. What’s the use then? You have one mind and you can’t think of everything, you have a limited reach and here your co-founder’s work starts, he has to help you beyond your saturation point and add up his mind and ideas and take the venture forward. If he is not able to do that then why the fuck is he even in there?
Finding a co-founder is much like finding a wife in arrange marriage, you can’t just go by looks and knowledge, if your thinking doesn’t match you are bound to have clashes and ultimately you would have to compromise for something that you never wanted for the rest of your life.
In my case i became desperate to get a co-founder no matter how he is and was even ready to give him/her a high equity in the company(though i don’t even have a company right now) until i realized i’m just wasting time trying the wrong approach coz if the person turned out to be a misfit I’ll lose equity, my patience and my business. So finally i decided to go on without a tech co-founder until i find the right one and keep doing the ground work which i know how to do and figure out the tech part a little later.
Do you think it will work?
