I know what you want. You keep finding these small little marketing hacks that either don’t work or makes less of a splash than you expected. Yet you keep looking for more, don’t you?
Of course, sometimes you score a one hit wonder but those are far and few between and relying solely on them is like committing your life to that teeny-tiny oasis which can very well go extinct tomorrow.
So today I thought I’ll give you what you want, something that’ll help you in the short term as well as the long haul. And surprisingly, most marketers are still unaware of it, though it’s not news anymore…
Did you know the aspect ratio of videos play a huge role in deciding how many people would watch it and how long they’d watch it for?
There are two common video formats on the web – square (1:1) and landscape (16:9).
Surprisingly enough, Square videos (1:1) take up 78% more real estate in a person’s mobile newsfeed on facebook than landscape videos (16:9). Can you imagine the significance?
The team at Buffer & Animoto did a study and concluded two major upshots of using square videos:
- Square videos resulted in 30-35% higher video views and an 80-100% increase in engagement.
- It costed 7.5% less to get someone to engage with square video on Facebook and a whopping 33% less on Instagram.
Just to put this in perspective…
If you weren’t living under a rock for the past few years, the mobile content consumption has surpassed desktop and as companies start to adopt a mobile-first approach, every optimization on mobile will yield multifold returns, including this one.
So much so that if you’re spending $1,000 per month on video promotion, you can expect to save about $75, on $10k you can save $750 and on $100k you can give a $7.5k bump to your budget automatically just by using square videos.
Need any more incentive to adopt the square videos? I guessed so.
